Description
Pick up the Kaweco Special Brass fountain pen and the first thing you notice is the weight: a satisfying, solid 32.6g of lead-free brass in a long, slim, eight-sided body. The second thing you notice is how good it looks, and how much better it will look in a year's time.
A pen that grows with you
Raw brass is a living material. As you carry and use your Special, it slowly develops a natural, individual patina, darkening into warm honey and bronze tones where your fingers rest. Many collectors love that lived-in character; others prefer a mirror shine and polish their pen back to bright gold now and then. Either way, no two Special Brass pens age in quite the same way, so yours becomes truly yours.
Highlights at a glance
- Solid lead-free brass body with silver-tone trim
- Octagonal profile inherited from Kaweco's classic Special pens
- Stainless steel nib, made in Germany: EF, F, M, B or BB
- 142mm closed, 169mm with the cap posted, 10mm diameter
- Takes standard international cartridges, or a Kaweco converter (sold separately) for bottled ink
- Presented in a Kaweco tin box
Writing with a heavier pen
If you have only used plastic pens, a brass pen can feel like a revelation. The extra weight lets the nib do the work, so you can relax your grip and let the pen glide. That is why brass fountain pens are popular with people who write long letters, keep detailed planners or simply want a calmer writing experience at the end of a busy day. Slim at 10mm, the Special keeps that weight elegant rather than bulky.
Gifting idea
For a fountain pen lover in your life, a brass fountain pen is a thoughtful, lasting gift. Pair it with a bottle of blue-black or brown ink, and it becomes a set they will use for decades.
Living with brass
Want to keep the shine? A little brass polish and a microfibre cloth restore the bright golden finish in minutes. Prefer the vintage look? Simply carry the pen every day and let time do the work. Remember to keep the nib section clear of polish, and rinse the nib with water whenever you change inks.
