Pilot custom 823 + iroshizuku ink = dream.
Excellent EDC with whispering feedback. Although F nib still its very wet & smooth.
Overall just mind blowing.
Only problem is I forget my other pens.
Also very happy with makoba.
Smooth ink flow and writing experience at an affordable price, a vintage design and fast shipment. What more could anyone want for a delightful writing experience.
Nice Pen, Fast delivery, Excellent Service.
Keep up the good work Makoba....
This is my first Nahvalur pen and also my first Vacuum Filler fountain pen. So, I was pretty excited while placing the order. The MAKOBA is one of India's best e-stores specializing in pens and ink accessories, if not the best! Immediately after placing the order, they updated me over WhatsApp and shipped it the very next day! Throughout the shipping process, they were in constant touch with me over WhatsApp and shared images of the products being shipped. The delivery was on time (it reached me less than a week), and the packaging was very professional.
Now about the Pen: It came in a nice proprietary gift box, and MAKOBA provided a cleaning cloth with it. The premium look radiates a distinctive glow, and I instantly fell in love with the Pen! I ordered it with a "Broad nib" because I want my lines to be a bit thick. The Vacuum Filling mechanism gives exclusive satisfaction to the user, which makes this Pen unique. The Pen technically glides on any paper. The Demo/Glass Ink reservoir, Resin body, Rose Gold Plated trim, and nib make it a piece of art. It might feel a bit big to hold, but it's elegant. And it demands a professional hand to control it. Thus, I won't recommend it for beginners or people looking for a cheaper alternative.
Nahvalur is a US-based company and a celebrated brand. Surprisingly, Nahvalur Pens, particularly this model, are rare in India, and it's available at a competitive price on MAKOBA! Compared to other world-class brands, it’s far better quality at this price! Overall, it was a satisfying experience!
Kaweco is a celebrated German brand. I love their fountain pens and inks. Thus, I ordered this one.
I like bottled inks better, particularly for their longer shelf-life. Compared to them, the cartridges are short-lasting. But they are handy, travel-friendly, and simple enough to change. Since I travel frequently and carry fountain pens, I observed that cartridges work better than inked pens. You can also carry extra cartridges for your quick refills.
The delivery was on time; the packaging was professional. These are standard international cartridges that fit most international fountain pens! The ink quality, as expected, is very fine and flawless. It’s an Anti-Fade, water-based fountain pen ink that goes well with my premium pens. I also liked the ink color (Midnight Blue, which is a unique version of Blue-Black) that gives character to my writing.
I won't recommend this ink for beginners or people looking for a cheaper alternative. I hope this info helps you to decide on your future orders.

Sailing Through Time: A Review of the Sailor 1911 with a Zoom Nib
Packaging and Presentation:
From the outset, the Sailor 1911 evokes a sense of refined elegance. The packaging is tastefully designed with a blend of modern aesthetics and hints of vintage flair, ensuring the unboxing experience feels like a journey through time.
Design and Craftsmanship:
The body of the Sailor 1911 radiates understated luxury. Its sleek, polished resin construction combined with the tastefully placed gold trims speaks to its enduring heritage. The pen feels balanced in hand, neither too weighty nor too light, and the attention to detail is evident in every millimeter.
The Zoom Nib Experience:
This is where the Sailor 1911 truly stands apart. The zoom nib, a unique offering from Sailor, is nothing short of revolutionary. Depending on the angle at which you hold the pen, the line width varies from a fine to a broad stroke. This gives writers and artists alike a dynamic range to play with, all within a single nib. The 21K gold construction ensures a smooth, almost buttery writing experience.
Performance:
Ink flow from the zoom nib is consistent, avoiding any unwanted skips or hard starts. The Sailor 1911 feels responsive, adapting swiftly to changes in writing pressure and angle. Its seamless performance, paired with the versatility of the zoom nib, makes for a delightful writing session, every time.
Final Thoughts:
The Sailor 1911 with a zoom nib isn't just a writing instrument; it's a testament to Sailor's commitment to innovation and craftsmanship. For those seeking versatility without compromising on elegance or performance, this pen is a worthy addition to any collection. It's more than just a pen; it's a voyage through the art of writing.
Thestral Black Ink Review
Packaging and Presentation:
From the first glance, “Thestral Black” ink stands apart. The packaging is subdued and mysterious, mirroring the elusive nature of the Thestral creatures themselves. A shadowy silhouette of a Thestral graces the bottle, evoking the sense of the unseen and the magical.
Color and Consistency:
The ink is a deep, rich black, reminiscent of the dark, velvety coat of a Thestral. On closer inspection, there are subtle undertones of grey, capturing the ethereal, almost ghostly presence of these magical creatures. The ink is of medium consistency, allowing for smooth writing without any dragging or skipping.
Performance:
On paper, “Thestral Black” performs admirably. There’s minimal feathering, even on more absorbent paper types, and no noticeable bleed-through. The drying time is slightly longer than some inks, clocking in at about 30 seconds on standard writing paper. However, its resistance to water and smudging once dry makes up for the wait.
Versatility:
This ink shines, or rather, darkens beautifully, regardless of the pen used. Fine nibs produce sharp, precise lines while broader nibs give a luxurious, velvety finish that showcases the depth of the ink. It’s suitable for both daily tasks and more artistic endeavors.
Final Thoughts:
For those in the know, “Thestral Black” is more than just an ink; it’s an experience. It carries with it the mystique and the depth of the Wizarding World’s most mysterious creatures. Perfect for those who appreciate the deeper, hidden layers of magic in everyday life. Whether you’re writing a letter, drafting a manuscript, or sketching, this ink adds a touch of the unknown, the unseen, and the utterly enchanting.
I will write more about Makoba than about the luxury pens they sell, because everyone knows the latter are awesome, anyway!
The guys at Makoba are the perfect balance of professional and amiable. They are very well informed about the different types of pens, nibs and their nuances. Mr. Ansh, one of their employees, for example, spent a good one hour addressing my queries about the relative thickness of the same nib grade across brands, and ultimately helped me make a choice. This sort of support while making a pen purchase is rare in India.
Moreover, the discounts they offer are awesome. Please give the Makoba experience a try!
Great product.
ok
Nib writes really smoothly. Not too heavy not too light- just the ideal weight. PVD coating is done well, but need to wait to see if it chips with age. Overall good buy at the price point.
The fountain pen I brought was impeccable. Great collection by Makoba.
This juicy double broad nib is just butter! Thank you team Makoba for prompt delivery with constant updates.
On July 23, 2023, I purchased this Pilot Custom 823 (Fine Nib) from Makoba. There weren't many trustworthy retailers from which I could get this pen. Before purchasing this pen, I conducted a lot of web research since I wanted to try it out in person. It was impossible because there were Makoba stores in cities other than the one I reside in. I considered taking a chance by ordering from Makoba after reading all the web reviews. According to the news or reviews I found online, they appeared to have a decent reputation. The very next day, they wrapped and sent my order. It came to me in three days. I had asked for the pen to be examined to rule out any issues.
They said that they had done so . They sent the pen back in mint condition. The pen is looks impressive. Its transluscent black body shines, giving it an exquisite and alluring appearance. Compared to European Fine nibs, this fine nib is finer. The nib provides a small amount of feedback for its line width. This nib is supposed to provide some feedback, I suppose. The European Extra fine nib, which might be this in terms of line width, is something I've never used. So, no comparison. Nevertheless, after a few days of writing, I have grown to love this minimal feedabck. It doesn't itch at all. I believe it was a switch in routine from European Fine to Japanese Fine for me. The barrel hods a lot of ink. Hence it is a workhorse if you are writing daily.
The vaccum filling system is beautiful. You might need to read the instructions on how to tighten the plunger end to stop ink from flowing and how to leave it loose to allow ink to flow. It was little confusing for me in the beginning when there was no ink flow. I thought there is some problem with the pen. But it was not so.
The only uncomfortable aspects of this pen may be that it is difficult to thoroughly clean if you want to. But based on what I've seen online, thorough cleaning of the pen is hardly ever necessary. It only needs few flushes of water. Priming it 4 times with water cleans it well. Since Pilot does not have a direct service centre in India, any problems must be reported to Makoba during the warranty period. However, since Pilot intends to begin operations in India, I do not anticipate the issue lasting very long.
Overall, it's a fantastic pen, and Makoba has provided good service thus far. I hope they would keep up the excellent customer service in the future.
Thank you Mr Sahoo for the kind words. As for matter of Servicing the Writing Instrument, we do take care of Servicing the Pens in India as far as possible and if for reasons, it cannot be done in India then we send the pen to their respective brand country and get it done. Though its a bit time consuming process and requires Patience from all ends, rest assured the servicing is handled. This implies to all Premium brands that support servicing and where the cost of servicing is justified.
Wish you an amazing time with your new found love, and hope it helps you create many many beautiful memories.
