Retro 51 Smithsonian Wright Brothers Aeroplane Roller Ball Pen
For anyone who has ever looked up at a plane and wondered how it all began. The Retro 51 Smithsonian Wright Brothers Aeroplane Roller Ball Pen wraps a schematic drawing of the 1909 Wright Military Flyer around a matte, vintage-style Tornado barrel.
The Retro 51 Wright Brothers rollerball is officially licensed by the Smithsonian Institution, the American museum group that has looked after this famous aircraft since 1911. Orville and Wilbur Wright built the Military Flyer for the U.S. Army Signal Corps; it passed its government trials in 1909 and became the first aeroplane the U.S. military ever bought. Today the Retro 51 Wright Brothers rollerball turns that piece of aviation history into a pen you can carry every day.
A drawing you can hold
The barrel of the Retro 51 Wright Brothers rollerball carries a printed technical drawing of the Wright Military Flyer, with its twin propellers and fabric-covered wings, on a soft matte finish. Antique-finish metal accents give the Retro 51 Wright Brothers rollerball the look of a well-loved workshop tool.
Numbered, with the Smithsonian sun
Look at the top of the Retro 51 Wright Brothers rollerball and you will find the Smithsonian sun logo on the end disc, and an individual number engraved on the top ring. The Retro 51 Wright Brothers rollerball is numbered rather than a limited edition, so every pen has its own identity.
Twist to write
Like every Retro 51 Tornado, the Retro 51 Wright Brothers rollerball has no cap. Twist the knurled top and the rollerball tip extends; twist back and it retracts. The Retro 51 Wright Brothers rollerball writes with a smooth black rollerball refill and is refillable.
Size and feel
The Retro 51 Wright Brothers rollerball is 125mm long, 12mm in diameter and weighs about 28g. Its brass body gives it a satisfying, solid weight without feeling heavy.
A gift for aviation lovers
Retro 51 presents the Retro 51 Wright Brothers rollerball in a commemorative Smithsonian tube that doubles as a pen stand, which makes it a wonderful present for pilots, engineers, model-makers and history buffs.
