Description
Long before synthetic dyes, people in Japan coloured cloth using acorns, and the resulting earthy shades were known as tsurubami. The Sailor 1911 Casual Shikiori Kusa Asobi Tsurubami ball pen carries that name in a warm, woody brown resin with gold plated trim. It's a quiet, grounded pen that looks better the longer you use it.
Why a brown pen?
Brown is having a real moment among stationery lovers, and for good reason. It feels natural and calm. It pairs beautifully with leather organisers and kraft-paper notebooks, and it's a refreshing change from the usual black, blue and silver. If you've been hunting for a brown ball pen with some character, this one is worth a look.
The Kusa Asobi story
Kusa Asobi, meaning "playing with grass", is a series within Sailor's Shikiori collection inspired by the games children play outdoors. Acorns are among the first treasures kids collect in autumn, spinning them like tops or lining them up on a windowsill. Tsurubami brings that memory to your desk.
Specifications in plain words
It's a full-size pen at 134mm, with a 12mm diameter and a weight of 22g, built on Sailor's classic 1911 shape. The body is resin and the fittings are gold plated. There's no cap to lose: you twist to write and twist to retract.
