Tokiwa: Evergreen
Tokiwa is a Japanese word for something that never changes. The design shows evergreen trees on a mountain that keep their colour through winter: green lacquer powders are dusted in varying intensities to build a gradient landscape, while crushed abalone shell and flat gold powders sparkle behind it like a starry night.
The Aya collection
Like every Aya pen, the Aya Tokiwa uses its own coloured urushi lacquer to suggest a natural scene. The Aya Tokiwa is finished in togidashi maki-e: gold and silver dust is sprinkled into the lacquer, covered with further layers of urushi and then polished back by hand until the design appears.
Namiki's No. 30 nib
Namiki's large No. 30 nib on the Aya Tokiwa is 18K gold, engraved with Mount Fuji, and comes in Fine Medium, Medium or Broad. The Aya Tokiwa fills with Pilot cartridges or the included Pilot CON-70 converter, holding up to about 1.4ml of ink.
