Description
Homer's Odyssey has been told for nearly three thousand years. Montegrappa retells it in silver and resin. The Montegrappa Odyssey Chapter II Limited Edition Rollerball Pen is the second part of a trilogy inspired by the epic, capturing the most dangerous stage of Odysseus's journey home. Only 266 numbered pieces exist worldwide.
The story on the barrel
Sterling silver friezes, made using the ancient lost-wax casting technique, wrap the pen with scenes of:
- Circe and her enchantments
- The descent to the Underworld
- The Sirens' deadly song
- Scylla, the sea monster
A sculpted miniature of Poseidon, god of the sea, forms the clip.
Design inspiration
The fluted cobalt-blue resin body echoes the columns of the Doric order of ancient Greek architecture, finished with vermeil wave motifs, mother-of-pearl details and Greek key patterns.
Why 266?
The edition size comes from the isopsephic (Greek numerical) value of the Greek word for "Greece".
Presence in the hand
At 164mm long, 26mm at its widest and 134g, this is a substantial collector's piece, as much sculpture as writing instrument.
