An icon restored: the Sheaffer Balance III Fountain Pen in Glossy Black CT brings back the streamlined torpedo shape Sheaffer introduced in 1929, now with a built-in piston filler and PVD chrome trim.

Key highlights

  • Collection: Balance III
  • Colour: glossy black
  • Trim: PVD chrome
  • Filling: piston, about 2ml
  • Nib: #6 two-tone steel, EF to B

A shape from 1929

The Balance III Glossy Black CT descends from the 1929 Sheaffer Balance, which helped define the streamlined fountain pen. Its chrome-trimmed body keeps that tapered torpedo profile, a concave grip and the classic white dot above the clip.

Piston filling with an ink window

Unlike most modern Sheaffers, the Balance III Glossy Black CT has a built-in piston filler: turn the knob to draw ink from a bottle. Sheaffer rates it at about 2ml, and an ink window shows when the Balance III Glossy Black CT needs a refill. A wrench comes with the Balance III Glossy Black CT for removing the piston for maintenance.

The nib

The Balance III Glossy Black CT writes with a die-stamped #6 two-tone steel nib with a heart-shaped breather hole and 1913, the year Sheaffer was founded. For the Balance III Glossy Black CT, choose Extra Fine, Fine, Medium or Broad.

Extremely Smooth. The medium nib is equal to the fine nib of German-made nibs. Very satisfied with the Ink flow and ergonomics of the pen!

Good writing

This is my first pilot product, I loved it.

Beautiful Pen

My first purchase from makoba. It’s a wonderful fountain pen for small handwriting. The point is finer than a usual Lamy fine nib. And the pen writes with a buttery smooth texture on Tomoe river paper.
It was also delivered very quickly after ordering. The packaging was very nice. Would love to purchase from Makoba again.

Pilot Kakuno Azure Sky Fountain Pen - Light Blue

Pilot Kakuno

I bought this pen after hearing good things about it, but I didn’t expect much since everyone said it was just an entry-level pen. Turns, they were completely wrong. No one mentioned that once you use it, you’ll fall in love with it. They also left out the part about judging a book by its cover. This pen exceeds every standard I use to judge a pen—it’s simply fabulous. I absolutely love it, and it’s become my everyday carry.

The Pilot con-40 fountain pen writes like a dream. And the Leuchtturm 1917 notebook is gorgeous! The design is so thoughtful. I especially love the little pouch in the back cover!

Best first time experience with MAKOBA

I just bought my very first fountain pen the pilot kakuno madoromi series
I was really nervous about it, will it arrive on time or not is the only question that was going through my head
But on the day it arrived the packaging was super safe I mean it took me 5 min just to remove the packaging, the pen was perfect fine, sealed and not a scratch on it.
The only problem was that it arrived 2 days late.
But overall the experience was great I would love to shop again with Makiba

Pilot Metropolitan

It’s a fantastic pen, the grip section is very comfortable. Had to switch out the fine nib for medium, medium is more to my taste but it writes very nicely now.
