Every fountain pen needs a good bath now and then. Rohrer & Klingner Reiniger is a specialist fountain pen cleaner from one of Germany's most respected ink makers, designed to dissolve stubborn, dried-on ink that plain water simply cannot shift.
When do you need a pen cleaner?
- Your pen has been sitting unused and the ink has dried in the feed
- You use pigmented or document inks, which can leave stubborn deposits
- You are switching between very different ink colours
- Your pen has started to skip or write dry even after rinsing
- You have bought a vintage or second-hand pen and want to start fresh
How to use it
- Flush the pen with clean water first.
- Fill the pen (or the converter, or the nib unit) with Reiniger.
- Leave it for about five minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly with water until it runs clear.
- For very stubborn ink, repeat with a longer soak.
Gentle where it matters
Rohrer & Klingner formulates Reiniger to be gentle on the seals and feeds of your pen, so you can use it as part of regular maintenance rather than only in emergencies.
A clever bottle
The 45ml bottle has Rohrer & Klingner's built-in erka-rapid reservoir, so you can still dip and fill a pen easily even when the bottle is nearly empty.
About Rohrer & Klingner
With roots going back to Leipzig in 1892 and now based in Zella-Mehlis, Germany, Rohrer & Klingner is known worldwide for its inks, including the much-loved Salix and Scabiosa iron gall inks.
How often should you clean?
Most fountain pens are happy with a water flush every two to four weeks. Reach for Reiniger when ink has dried, when you are using pigmented or document inks, or before storing a pen for a long time. A clean pen starts first time and writes with a steady, wet line.
