A 1920s classic, reborn
'Drehgriffel' is German for 'twist grip', and Leuchtturm1917 based the Indigo Drehgriffel pencil on a writing instrument from the 1920s, reworking it with precision-milled aluminium and brass for today. The six-sided barrel of the Indigo Drehgriffel pencil sits naturally between the fingers and will not roll off the desk.
Using the Indigo Nr.2
Twist the head of the Indigo pencil to advance the 0.7mm lead. A 0.7mm lead in the Indigo Nr.2 resists snapping under pressure, yet stays fine enough for neat handwriting, sudoku and sketching. The Indigo pencil comes with HB lead, and any standard 0.7mm lead fits if you prefer a softer or harder grade. There is no eraser on the Indigo Nr.2, so keep a separate one in your pencil case.
Why Indigo?
Indigo is the thinker's colour: deep, calm and serious. On a pencil it feels grown-up and focused, perfect for notes in the margins of a book or a quick sketch in a dotted journal.
Indigo is part of Leuchtturm1917's 2026 colour collection, so the Indigo Drehgriffel pencil can be matched with notebooks and planners in the same shade.
A thoughtful gift
Compact, beautifully made and clipless, the Indigo Drehgriffel pencil slips into a notebook pen loop, pencil case or shirt pocket. Pair the Indigo Drehgriffel pencil with a Leuchtturm1917 notebook for a gift that feels personal and practical.
