Description
Some pens shout. The Kaweco Special Red fountain pen simply walks into the room and quietly owns it. Long, slim and eight-sided, it is one of the most elegant everyday fountain pens Kaweco makes, and this deep red version, released in Kaweco's limited Collection series, is the one people stop and ask about.
A slim pen with a long history
The Special line goes back to Kaweco's early decades, when it was made first in ebonite and later in celluloid. The ballpoint came first and the fountain pen followed soon after. Today Kaweco machines it from metal, and the octagonal profile is exactly what made the original so recognisable: it sits neatly between your fingers, it never rolls off a sloping desk, and it looks crisp in a jacket pocket.
Why this red version is special
- Anodised aluminium in a rich burgundy-red: light, tough and warm to the eye
- Gold-tone brass accents on the grip section and end pieces, for a classic red-and-gold look
- Gold-coloured stainless steel nib, made in Germany, in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad or Double Broad
- Light, slim and balanced: the aluminium body keeps long journaling sessions and exam papers comfortable
- Limited availability: part of Kaweco's Collection range, produced for a limited time
How it writes
Unscrew the cap, post it on the back and the Special stretches from 142mm to a comfortable 169mm. The barrel is just 10mm across, so if you love slim pencils or have smaller hands, this is likely to feel instantly natural. Fill it with standard international ink cartridges (one blue cartridge is in the box) or add a Kaweco converter, sold separately, to use your favourite bottled inks.
Who will love it?
Students who want a smart, durable fountain pen for college; professionals who sign documents all day; journal keepers; and anyone looking for a premium fountain pen gift in India that feels personal rather than flashy. It arrives in Kaweco's nostalgic tin, ready for Diwali, birthdays or a graduation.
Care tips for your Special
Flush the nib with lukewarm water every time you change ink colour, and wipe the aluminium with a soft dry cloth. Avoid leaving the pen in a hot car, because heat can push ink out of any fountain pen. Store it nib-up in a pen cup or flat in a case, and it will reward you with years of reliable writing.
