The art of urushi
Urushi is a natural lacquer made from tree sap, used in Japan for centuries on everything from bowls to temple objects. It's applied in many thin layers, and each layer must cure before the next, which makes urushi pens slow and painstaking to create. The finish has a depth and warmth that synthetic lacquers simply can't match.
Abalone and eggshell
On Winter Breath, the urushi surface is decorated with fragments of abalone shell, which shimmer with shifting colours as the light moves, and delicate pieces of eggshell, which add a soft, pale texture. Together they give the pen its frost-touched, wintry character.
An 18K gold nib
Underneath the artistry is a serious writer. The pen is fitted with an 18K gold nib, available in Medium or Broad, for a smooth, cushioned writing feel. It fills by cartridge or converter, and both are included.

This is a substantial pen: 157mm long when closed, 17mm in diameter and 36g in total (13g cap, 23g barrel). It's designed to be used unposted. Black trim keeps the focus on the decorated body.
