The first of the Three Friends of Winter
Bamboo opens a Scribo trilogy based on shochikubai, the pine, bamboo and plum that Japanese tradition calls the Three Friends of Winter. Bamboo stands for resilience: the strength to bend without breaking.
Urushi, ishime and maki-e
Urushi master Takeshi Matsuyama, from Yamanaka, decorated the La Dotta Bamboo 18K. He built up layers of urushi lacquer, gave the surface a stone-like ishime texture, and drew a stylised bamboo in maki-e with gold and silver powders. His signature and Scribo's name in katakana are engraved on the cap.
A choice of 18K nibs
We offer the La Dotta Bamboo 18K with Scribo's 18K gold nib in Extra Extra Fine, Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, Double Broad, Triple Broad and a 1.4mm stub. Each nib carries a bamboo engraving for this edition.
Numbered and boxed
The edition number of each La Dotta Bamboo 18K is engraved on the ring of the filling system. The pen comes in a handmade wooden box tied with a Japanese cord, with a kimono-fabric pen pouch.
