Sailor KOP Handcrafted Lakshmi Limited Edition Fountain Pen
A blessing you can write with. The Sailor King of Pen Handcrafted Lakshmi Limited Edition Fountain Pen honours Goddess Lakshmi, the giver of prosperity, good fortune and grace, with hand-painted maki-e on a black ebonite King of Pen.
Sailor has been making fountain pens in Japan since 1911, and the King of Pen is its flagship, the largest pen and nib in its range. The Sailor KOP Lakshmi brings together Japanese lacquer art and one of India's most cherished deities, a pen made for collectors, for a special Diwali or for a family heirloom.
Maki-e: painting in gold
Maki-e is a centuries-old Japanese art in which designs are painted in urushi lacquer and sprinkled with fine gold and coloured powders. On the Sailor KOP Lakshmi, the artwork of Goddess Lakshmi is painted by hand, so every pen is slightly different.
Ebonite and urushi
The body of the Sailor KOP Lakshmi is turned from ebonite, a hard natural rubber that feels warm in the hand, and coated with urushi lacquer, which gives a deep, glowing black background for the maki-e.
The King of Pen 21K gold nib
The Sailor KOP Lakshmi is fitted with Sailor's large 21K gold King of Pen nib, famous for its smooth, gently feedback-rich writing. We offer Medium and Broad.
Filling
The Sailor KOP Lakshmi takes Sailor cartridges or the included converter for bottled ink.
Size
The Sailor KOP Lakshmi is a substantial pen at 153.5mm long and 15.6mm in diameter, and weighs about 33g. It is designed to be used with the cap off rather than posted.
