Description
Pilot Custom 742 Fountain Pen - Black GT
If you could only own one gold-nib fountain pen, many enthusiasts would say: make it the Custom 742. The Pilot Custom 742 Fountain Pen in Black GT is a classic black-and-gold pen with one of the widest choices of nibs in the world.
Pilot, founded in Tokyo in 1918, makes its own gold nibs in-house, and the Pilot Custom 742 carries its size #10 nib, larger than the one on the Custom 74. Its traditional cigar shape, black resin and gold trim make the Pilot Custom 742 a timeless choice for professionals and a pen many people keep for life.
14K gold nib, many grinds
The Pilot Custom 742 is famous for its nib options. We offer Extra Fine, Fine, Soft Fine, Fine Medium, Soft Fine Medium, Medium, Soft Medium, Broad, Double Broad and Coarse. Soft nibs add a little spring and line variation, while Coarse lays down a bold, generous line.
Japanese sizing
Pilot's nibs write finer than European ones, so a Medium on the Pilot Custom 742 is closer to a European Fine. It is worth keeping in mind when you choose.
Filling
The Pilot Custom 742 takes Pilot cartridges and comes with a Pilot converter, so you can use bottled inks such as Pilot Iroshizuku from day one.
Size and balance
The Pilot Custom 742 is 146mm long capped, 160mm posted and 12mm in diameter, weighing only about 22g. It is comfortable for hours of writing, and the screw cap posts securely.
