Description
The Pelikan M1000 Maki-e Four Seasons Lucky Charm (Limited Edition) brings together two worlds of craftsmanship: Pelikan's legendary German piston-filling pen and the ancient Japanese art of maki-e. It's a collector's fountain pen of rare beauty, finished in urushi lacquer using the demanding togidashi-taka-maki-e technique.
The art of maki-e
Maki-e means "sprinkled picture". Artists draw designs in urushi lacquer and sprinkle them with fine metal powders while the lacquer is still wet. Togidashi involves building up and then polishing back layers so the design appears to sit beneath the surface, while taka (raised) maki-e creates parts of the design in relief. Combining these techniques takes great skill and time.
The Pelikan M1000
The M1000 is the largest pen in Pelikan's Souverän family, known for its generous size and comfortable balance. This edition measures 146mm capped and 177mm posted, with a 15mm diameter, and weighs 35g (11g cap, 24g barrel). Gold plated trim complements the lacquer artwork.
An 18K gold nib
It's fitted with an 18K gold nib in Medium, giving a smooth, generous line that suits both everyday writing and signing special documents.
Piston filling
Like all M1000 pens, it's a piston filler: turn the end knob to draw ink directly from the bottle into the barrel.
A pen for a lifetime
With its "lucky charm" theme and seasonal imagery, this limited edition is a meaningful gift for a milestone and a centrepiece for any serious collection.
