Description
Heeeere's the pen. The Montegrappa Stanley Kubrick: The Shining limited edition fountain pen is a masterpiece of cinematic storytelling in pen form, created in Bassano del Grappa by Italy's oldest pen maker.
An edition of 237
Only 237 fountain pens with 18K gold nibs have been made, a number taken straight from the film's infamous Room 237. Announced in April 2026, it is a true collector's piece among limited-edition fountain pens.
Every detail tells a story
- The nib: 18K gold, engraved with the shadow of Jack Torrance in vermeil
- The elevator: the barrel opens like the famous elevator scene, and a window reveals the red ink inside
- The twins: a rotating peephole disc on the cap end makes them appear and vanish
- The maze: engraved in vermeil around the cap band with the film logo
- Room 237: a clip shaped like the room key, with a red resin tag
- The typewriter line: "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" runs around the end cap
Writing experience
The pen uses Montegrappa's Free Drop Reservoir filling system, and Montegrappa includes a 50ml bottle of ink with the fountain pen so the red window comes to life straight away. Choose from Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad or a 1.1mm Stub. At 155mm long, 19.5mm in diameter and about 91g, it is a large, weighty pen that rewards slow, deliberate writing.
Materials
Deep red resin, wood and sterling silver 925 with vermeil trim: a rich, warm combination that recalls the Overlook Hotel's dramatic interiors.
Presentation
Like the rollerball, it is presented in a case recreating the "REDRUM" door.
A word for collectors
Limited editions with a strong theme and a small production run tend to be cherished by collectors. Keep the REDRUM case and paperwork safe, store the pen away from direct sunlight, and enjoy writing with it; Montegrappa built it to be used as well as admired.
