Description
"Come play with us." Few films have left a mark like The Shining, and few pens celebrate cinema as boldly as the Montegrappa Stanley Kubrick: The Shining limited edition rollerball pen. It is a collector's piece packed with references that fans will spot instantly.
The edition
Montegrappa's Stanley Kubrick: The Shining limited edition, announced in April 2026, is a themed tribute to the 1980 horror classic, limited to 237 fountain pens and 237 rollerballs, a number every fan will recognise from Room 237.
Hidden details to discover
- The twins: a rotating vermeil disc on the end of the cap, styled as a door peephole, makes the famous twins appear and disappear as you turn it
- "Come play with us": engraved on a vermeil ring
- The maze: the hedge labyrinth is engraved in vermeil on the cap band, together with the film's logo
- Room 237: the clip is shaped like the Room 237 key, complete with a red resin key tag
- "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy": engraved continuously around the end cap
Materials and craftsmanship
Montegrappa combines deep red resin, mahogany wood and sterling silver 925, finished with vermeil (gold-plated sterling silver) trim. At 155mm long and 19.5mm wide, it is a substantial pen that feels every bit as important as it looks.
The presentation
The pen arrives in a display case that recreates the Torrance apartment door marked "REDRUM". It is as much a showpiece for your shelf as it is a writing instrument.
For collectors and film lovers
If you collect film memorabilia, love horror cinema or simply appreciate Italian craftsmanship, this is one of the most distinctive luxury limited edition pens released in recent years.
Rollerball or fountain pen?
Choose the rollerball if you want The Shining's artistry with the easy, refill-based writing of a rollerball. Choose the fountain pen if you want the 18K gold nib, the red ink window and the full elevator effect. Serious collectors often keep both side by side.
