Description
Mysterious and sophisticated, Rohrer & Klingner Verdigris is a deep teal-black ink inspired by the green-blue patina that forms on aged copper. It reads almost black, then reveals blue and green tones in the light.
Key highlights
- Colour: teal-black, blue-green in bright light
- Inspiration: verdigris, the patina on old copper and bronze
- Shading: subtle
- Flow: wet
- Drying: around 15 seconds on smooth paper
- Type: dye-based writing ink
- Bottle: 50ml glass
A professional alternative to blue-black
Verdigris is dark enough for business writing and official notes, yet it has far more character than a standard blue-black. Many writers use it as their everyday 'signature' ink.
What is verdigris?
Verdigris is the blue-green coating that develops on copper, brass and bronze over time, the colour you see on old church roofs and statues. Rohrer & Klingner's ink captures that dark, weathered tone.
Writing tips
- Use good-quality paper; very absorbent paper may feather
- Broad nibs reveal more of its teal character
- Allow a little time to dry on coated paper
About Rohrer & Klingner
The company was founded in 1892 and remains one of Germany's best-known ink makers, loved for distinctive, historically inspired colours.
Frequently asked questions

Pen pairing ideas
