In a project to record the human nature to discover and rediscover, Montegrappa leads to the creation of yet another masterpiece writing instrument. The “Age of discovery” – a tribute to the first voyage undertaken by ship Victoria to circumnavigate the earth.
The pen may be mightier than the sword, but other instruments of soft power have changed the world too. Telescope and sextant motifs evoke the era of the great explorers, as does a magnetic compass.
The commemorative writing instrument houses a miniature magnetic compass, neatly concealed within the cap. The historic route sailed by Victoria – the first ship to circumnavigate the earth – is recorded on the cap made of antique brass.
Hand-worked mahogany wood and brass are the base elements for a telescope in miniature. Original castings and detailing provide a tactile link to a pioneering time, crafted from period materials destined to develop a rich luster with age.
