The story of the Drehgriffel
For the Sunflower Drehgriffel pencil, Leuchtturm1917, best known for its notebooks, revived a forgotten twist-action design from the 1920s; it keeps that vintage simplicity: no clip, no buttons, just a hexagonal milled body and a twist mechanism made in Germany.
Using the Sunflower Nr.2
Twist the head of the Sunflower pencil to advance the 0.7mm lead. A 0.7mm lead in the Sunflower Nr.2 resists snapping under pressure, yet stays fine enough for neat handwriting, sudoku and sketching. The Sunflower pencil comes with HB lead, and any standard 0.7mm lead fits if you prefer a softer or harder grade. There is no eraser on the Sunflower Nr.2, so keep a separate one in your pencil case.
Why Sunflower?
A yellow pencil is a design classic, and Sunflower gives that tradition a modern, metal twist. It is bright, optimistic and easy to find in a crowded pencil case.
Sunflower is part of Leuchtturm1917's 2026 colour collection, so the Sunflower Drehgriffel pencil can be matched with notebooks and planners in the same shade.
A thoughtful gift
Compact, beautifully made and clipless, the Sunflower Drehgriffel pencil slips into a notebook pen loop, pencil case or shirt pocket. Pair the Sunflower Drehgriffel pencil with a Leuchtturm1917 notebook for a gift that feels personal and practical.
