A 1920s classic, reborn
'Drehgriffel' is German for 'twist grip', and Leuchtturm1917 based the Cherry Drehgriffel pencil on a writing instrument from the 1920s, reworking it with precision-milled aluminium and brass for today. The six-sided barrel of the Cherry Drehgriffel pencil sits naturally between the fingers and will not roll off the desk.
Using the Cherry Nr.2
Twist the head of the Cherry pencil to advance the 0.7mm lead. A 0.7mm lead in the Cherry Nr.2 resists snapping under pressure, yet stays fine enough for neat handwriting, sudoku and sketching. The Cherry pencil comes with HB lead, and any standard 0.7mm lead fits if you prefer a softer or harder grade. There is no eraser on the Cherry Nr.2, so keep a separate one in your pencil case.
Why Cherry?
Cherry red makes this mechanical pencil feel like a little treasure. It is cheerful, confident and a lovely contrast to grey graphite on white paper.
Cherry is part of Leuchtturm1917's 2026 colour collection, so the Cherry Drehgriffel pencil can be matched with notebooks and planners in the same shade.
A thoughtful gift
Compact, beautifully made and clipless, the Cherry Drehgriffel pencil slips into a notebook pen loop, pencil case or shirt pocket. Pair the Cherry Drehgriffel pencil with a Leuchtturm1917 notebook for a gift that feels personal and practical.
