Its chrome-trimmed body keeps that tapered torpedo profile, a concave grip and the classic white dot above the clip.

Piston filling with an ink window

Unlike most modern Sheaffers, the Balance III Glossy Black CT has a built-in piston filler: turn the knob to draw ink from a bottle. Sheaffer rates it at about 2ml, and an ink window shows when the Balance III Glossy Black CT needs a refill. A wrench comes with the Balance III Glossy Black CT for removing the piston for maintenance.

The nib

The Balance III Glossy Black CT writes with a die-stamped #6 two-tone steel nib with a heart-shaped breather hole and 1913, the year Sheaffer was founded. For the Balance III Glossy Black CT, choose Extra Fine, Fine, Medium or Broad.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Balance III Glossy Black CT take cartridges?

No, the Balance III Glossy Black CT is a piston filler designed for bottled ink.

Is the cap of the Balance III Glossy Black CT a screw cap?

Yes, it screws on and can be posted on the barrel of the Balance III Glossy Black CT while writing.

What is the body of the Balance III Glossy Black CT made of?

Glossy black resin, with PVD-coated chrome trim.

Sheaffer Balance III Glossy Black CT Fountain Pen: specifications

Brand: Sheaffer

Collection: Balance III

Colour: glossy black

Body: resin

Trim: PVD chrome

Cap: screw-on, postable

Nib: #6 steel, two-tone

Nib sizes: Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad

Filling: piston, with ink window

Ink capacity: approx. 2ml (Sheaffer)

Length: 143mm capped, 163.5mm posted

Diameter: 12.7mm barrel

Weight: 21g (barrel 13g, cap 8g)

Brand origin: USA

Buying from Makoba: what you get

90+ brands: 90+ world-class brands, carefully selected for writers and collectors

Trusted by collectors: 50,000+ collectors, from first-time buyers to seasoned enthusiasts, shop with us

Delivered worldwide: 50,000+ pens safely delivered across India and the world

100% genuine: Every product is 100% genuine, with the official brand warranty where applicable

Everything for writing: One destination for pens, inks, paper and desk accessories

World's No.1 pen store: Makoba is the world's No.1 pen store for fine writing instruments

Largest pen store: Makoba holds India's largest collection of pens, from everyday writers to rare limited editions

Brand leader: Makoba is India's leading destination for Sheaffer, and its largest seller

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0582/0819/0643/files/SheafferBalanceIIIFountainPen-GlossyBlackCT_image1.jpg?v=1792568714
